AUTHOR: THE JT LEROY STORY
Jeff Feuerzeig (The Devil and Daniel Johnston) delivers the definitive portrait of the literary scandal that dominated post-millennium headlines, rocking the worlds of film, art, music and fashion. Forgoing tabloid sensationalism, Feuerzeig instead platforms the voice and personal history of Laura Albert, the creator of JT LeRoy, interweaving a treasure-trove of audio-visual archival and impressionistic vérité to construct a moving and propulsive psychological investigation into the relationship between art and authorship in the age of celebrity. “It’s a maze of identity,” the film critic Bilge Ebiri writes in New York Magazine. “That Feuerzeig can navigate this hall of mirrors so cleanly and effectively is positively supernatural.”
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was distributed theatrically by Magnolia Pictures. Feuerzeig received a Writers Guild of America nomination for Best Documentary Screenplay and Laura Albert received the Cinema Eye Unforgettables Award for her participation in the film.
